TranscribeTranslate fits into many categories.

First there are AI notetakers which are meeting-bot or general-purpose. The former includes apps such as Otter.ai, fireflies.ai, Grain, and likely runs on recall.ai's Meeting Bot API. There are also general-purpose notetakers such as Granola, Spellar AI, Shadow that record system audio on-device. Many of them run argmaxinc's WhisperKit.

There are also AI-responders such as Cluely or ecoute. These work by feeding your most recent transcript and/or screen context into an LLM for a response.

Some such as Plaud or iFlytek give you a real-world device that helps you record things.

Translation apps include langfinity, 3PO, toby which seem to create translation rooms or dub voices.

Finally there are captioning apps used for deafness, translation, or giving presentations such as Subtitle Me, BeMyEars, OpenSpoken.

Though this isn't an exhaustive list, TranscribeTranslate aims to cover all these features at a high quality level: general-purpose system audio AI notetaking, AI-responders, translation, and captioning.

What sets TranscribeTranslate apart?

• Data Storage: Many services store your recordings and transcriptions in the cloud. TranscribeTranslate keeps everything local with the actual recordings.
• No Login: You don't need to login with Apple, Google, or anything. The app just works.
• Simplicity: Built with native SwiftUI, TranscribeTranslate aims for software you'd feel proud to use and own.
• Live Transcription & Translation: Many apps don't transcribe or translate live. Romanization of non-Latin scripts and text-to-speech of foreign languages is a unique feature.

Weaknesses

If you heavily need diarization or sharing features, meeting-bot recorders are good because they identify the specific speaker in a call and let another user quickly create an account and join your organization.

TranscribeTranslate's local recording isn't as optimized for sharing with other people due to being local files. There are some default exports to calendar and as files, but not the same degree of CMS integration.

I've also yet to fully integrate both system and microphone recording, and it supports only language pairs rather than multi-languages. Ideally, translation should work so that any language is supported without selecting it. I personally find subtitles preferrable over dubbing.
