Philosophy
Since our memory is imperfect and we need to convince others of events, we need notes and recordings. I found myself taking screenshots of a Zoom meeting and jotting down some notes in a text file, but they were all haphazardly organized in folders on my computer.

This made retrieval of information quite difficult. The notes didn't always make sense, and there was no original audio to compare to. There would be some screenshots in another folder. A full video solves the inaccuracy problem, but it would take too much space and be bad for information retrieval as I'd need to watch all of it.
TranscribeTranslate records the audio data, transcribes, and takes intermittent screenshots into folders. This way, you can get the essence of all your meetings.
Translation
TranscribeTranslate utilizes MacOS's frameworks to translate text live, romanize non-Latin scripts, and play other languages out loud.
If you are taking meetings in another language, you can transcribe things into your native language so you can keep pace.
Theoretically, someone could also use this to watch videos, but most of them should have pre-generated captions that are more accurate than live transcription.
What I demand out of an app
The main requirements I have are good design and UX, affordable pricing, and local storage. I wasn't happy with any of the workflows that involved meeting bots or paying every month to store my files in the cloud.
TranscribeTranslate is able to record the actual MacOS system audio and screen. I carefully tweaked and built the app using native Swift, doing what I thought was right rather than blindly copying competitors.
- Most of the other apps were aesthetically too messy and confusing. They all had repetitive landing pages + confusing and bloated software.
- I need local audio files so that they serve as a point of truth, as even the most accurate transcription models now aren't perfect.
At least from what I've experienced living in the United States, I'd like to actively resist the enshittification of software and society. This might mean overpriced software or plastic/fake wood floors because it was the cheapest way to build a building. So please purchase my app and support me. Together we will build a quality and high trust world.
